How is a scooter tire constructed?

Do you now have a flat tire on your scooter and want to patch your scooter tire? We'll explain how to do this, but first we'll explain how a scooter tire is put together.

Flat tire?

Have a flat tire and want it replaced? Scooter Repair Service is the No. 1. Scooter repair service of the Netherlands! Get in touch with a scooter mechanic near you. Scooter Repair Service is ready for you.

You have two types of scooter tires these are:

  • Tube Type Tires - Tires with an inner tube
  • Tube Less tires - Tubeless tires

The tubeless tire can be repaired only if the hole is on the tread and therefore not if the hole is on the cheek (side) of the tire. This is in fact irresponsible and dangerous because this is the weakest part of the tire.

How can you tell where the leak in your scooter tire is coming from?

If you have a tubeless tire you only need to check if the leak is coming from the valve or from the outer tire. If you have a scooter tire with an inner tube, more work needs to be done. You need to remove the tire from the bracket/frame and use tools to remove the tire from the iron wheel. What tools you need for this we will cover in the next paragraph.

Inner Tube

If you want to check if the inner tube is flat, you do that by detaching the inner tube from the outer tire and wheel. Once you have done that use water to detect the puncture. To detect the puncture dip a piece of your tire in water then pump up your tire and slowly let the tire roll in your hand until you see bubbles occur in the water.
You then put your hand in the water and look for the puncture in the tire. Then do not remove your finger from the tire until you have marked the hole. Then you deflate the tire again and use your tools to patch the tire. Then put your tire back in the wheel and outer tire then put it back in the frame.

How do I glue the inner tube of a scooter?

Use the hooks found in the bicycle tire patch kit to remove the outer tire from the wheel. Then carefully remove the inner tube from the wheel, then inflate the tire and use the water technique you just read to detect the puncture. when you have done that let the tire dry. When it is completely dry use sand paper to clean the hole. Then place glue (is in your Bicycle tire patch kit) let the glue dry and then stick the bicycle tire patch on top of the glue. You can then put your scooter tire back in its original shape.

Bucket of Water

Outer tire

If you have a puncture on your scooter and it is a tubeless tire, it could mean that your puncture is coming from the valve or from your outer tire. When you inflate the tire, listen carefully to where the leak is coming from. If you can't hear anything roll the tire through your hand and if you feel a slight bubble, use soapy water to see if it bubbles where you feel it. Look carefully to make sure there is nothing in the tire that may have caused the puncture. Then remove this object that caused the puncture from the hole. Then take 1 of the scooter wads of eraser and a scooter tire needle. You can now jam the wad halfway up the eye of the needle. Then poke the needle into the hole until only a piece remains, then cut off the remaining piece. You are then ready to go. Make sure the tire pressure is not too low/high. This can cause the wad to move and slip in or out.

What do you need.

Scooter repair kit
Props/Laces
Rasp
Scooter needle
Glue
Props drill

Valve

If the puncture comes from the valve there is nothing you can do but get a new tire to avoid another puncture, make sure you have a plastic cap on your valve at all times. An iron valve will cause your valve and cap to rust solid so make sure you use a plastic cap so no sand or anything like that can get in.
What you need:
Soapy water
Bottle with sprayer
Plastic Valve cap
Bridge (easiest), otherwise put on stand
