Changing the oil is an important aspect of properly maintaining your scooter. What is important to know first is that 4-stroke scooters do not burn oil. These 4-stroke scooters have a separate oil reservoir for this. This is where the oil is contained and it ensures that the engine is lubricated, cleaned and cooled. Thus, 2-stroke scooters do burn oil. Below we are going to explain to you how this works. Not sure yet if your oil needs changing because you haven't polled the oil yet? You can read how to gauge your oil here.

Why change oil?

Oil that is completely changed will do your scooter good. It has many benefits. For example, you can think about improving the environment. Along with this, the engine will also function much more durable. Here are a few more points that changing oil improves:

    • Reduce friction
    • Reduce wear of the moving parts
    • Cooling the engine
    • Keeping the block clean
    • Protect against corrosion (rust)
    • Ensuring that the moving parts receive optimal temperatures

Furthermore, changing oil also has the advantage that it will cause little damage to the engine.

Finally, our tip is to check the oil level regularly. You can do this by with a cold or cooled engine.Remove the oil level from the engine block and wipe the oil level dry with a cloth. Then put the oil level back in the engine block, take it out again and check the level of the oil. If the oil is between the minimum and maximum, then the oil level is fine. If the oil level is lower, then it is high time to add oil or change it completely.

How is this to be refreshed?

Changing oil is done in 6 simple steps:

      1. Running the engine block warm
      2. Prepare catch basin
      3. Draining engine oil
      4. Oil filter replacement/cleaning
      5. Oil refill
      6. Oil level gauge

How often to change oil

Generally, with 4-stroke scooters, you will need to change the oil between 3000-5000 km. This may vary by brand, but in time it will be about after 12 months.
